How does your program fulfill an unmet need or gap for the target population, in the service delivery system and service area?

The HN599 Capstone Project is a three-part assignment where you will design a program proposal. In Unit 3, you will provide a statement of the problem you are addressing, and a review of the existing literature related to the problem and program you are designing. In Unit 5, you will develop the program design, which includes proposed interventions, funding and a plan for implementation. For the Unit 7 Final Assignment, you will develop a plan to evaluate the effectiveness of your interventions in this program. The Unit 9 Assignment is a power point presentation with audio of your completed Capstone Project. You will share the main elements of your completed program proposal with your classmates in the Unit 9 Discussion and the Unit 9 Seminar.
Below are the required elements of the Unit 3 Assignment:
Abstract:One paragraph summary and overview of the final project-overview (half page)
Introduction:Problem Statement
Provide a statement of the problem(s) your program is addressing.
Define the target population your program will be serving.
Explain the related social problem(s), the area of practice/concentration, agency setting, and geographical location-local, state, national, global, virtual (half page)
Literature Review:The literature review summarizes current peer-reviewed research on the research problem or topic. It explores the cause, risk factors, background history and theoretical perspectives related to the problem and the proposed program.
Part I: The Problem
Significant and Relevance: Does the research support the problem statement? Does it confirm, expand or refute your problem statement?
Etiology: Causes and risk factors related to the problem. Cultural, Social, Political and Religious Values and Practices Affecting the Problem, including any ethical or legal issues.
Social and economic costs to society related to the problem. (One and a half pages)
Part II: The Program
Provide a background history on the program or if a new program, background history on relevant or similar programs. What programs currently exist? Where are there gaps in the system? How does your program fulfill an unmet need or gap for the target population, in the service delivery system and service area? (One and a half pages.) (This part of the Assignment relates to the Unit 3 Discussion.)
The assignment should be a minimum of 4 pages (excluding title and reference page), with at least 4 scholarly academic references in the literature review.

What are some of the social problems that impact Native Americans

In Chapter 12, you were introduced to Jack Lawson from the Creek tribe with over 20 years of experience working with Native Americans. Jack shared a case of a young man, Joe, who struggled with alcoholism, substance abuse, anger, and destructive thoughts about being Native American.
Joe is a 25-year-old Native American. He has had a severe alcohol and drug problem since the age of 17. There is a history of alcoholism in his family. Although Joe is Native American, he has very little knowledge about his culture. He has negative views toward Native Americans as he sees them all as alcoholics and violent due to his upbringing. He is now facing jail time for his alcoholism and is at risk for losing his family and employment. He was court ordered to your alcohol and drug treatment program.
With the help of a program for drug and alcohol abuse that included interventions using the Native Americans’ traditions, this young man was able to turn his life around. However, Joe is placed in an environment that offers no specific services geared towards treating Native People.
Please answer the following questions:
What are some of the social problems that impact Native Americans and how will this influence your role as an advocate and social change agent for Joe?
Working with Joe, what steps will you take to advocate that his cultural needs and issues are properly addressed while receiving services? How can you help Joe with self-advocacy?
Since working with Joe, you have discovered there is a growing population of Native Americans in your community who are in need of help. Address each of the following:
What are the most important cultural values, beliefs, and traditions to consider when working with Native American communities?
Identify ways you can promote change and advocacy in your community to help address the needs of Native Americans. Include examples of culturally specific interventions.
In what ways can understanding these cultural values help you assess and build rapport with Native American clients?

What are the societal factors that contribute to the social problem(s)?

In Unit 1, in your problem statement, you identified the social problem your program will be addressing, the target population, type of services, and setting. This week, you will expound upon the etiology of the social problem. In your primary post respond to the following questions:
What social problem(s) does your program address? What are the societal factors that contribute to the social problem(s)? Explain the micro, mezzo and macro level factors from a systems theory perspective. What political, religious and cultural values affect the problem, both historically and today? Last, what are the social and economic costs to society related to the social problem? Identify at least three academic scholarly references to back up and support your response.
I have attached my unit 1 assignment below for reference.
Outreach and Counseling Intervention
Homeless persons remain among the most vulnerable members of the Atlanta society that often grapple with sheltering challenges. These individuals range across all age brackets, with most adults attributing their state to a lack of income (Nooe & Patterson, 2010). One intervention I would apply to remedy their circumstances is through outreach and counseling the affected persons in Atlanta, which helps get them on their feet in the right direction.
This intervention adheres to NOHS guidelines regarding the ethical standard for a human service professional’s responsibility to clients, which outlines a professional’s duty to the community and society (Wark, 2010). The agency’s primary objective shall be to address and remedy the homelessness situation in Atlanta by carrying out a root cause analysis through outreach and counseling.
Fundamentally, the agency shall fall under the home care and counseling psychology category. This intervention is designed to reach out to the homeless in Atlanta and point them to shelters or provide them with monetary support as part of the short-term intervention to enable them to find an immediate solution for basic amenities. The intervention further provides counseling as part of the long-term solution to identify the unique challenges that led to homelessness. A root cause analysis of the problem of homelessness often assists in crafting a lasting solution (Wright, 2009). Information from these sessions thus helps the agency to prepare unique solutions to each isolated homelessness case.
In conclusion, this approach is practical since the genesis of the problem of homelessness in Atlanta is different for all homeless persons. Some are homeless because of family feuds and abuse, while others are homeless because of financial situations. Some, like most children in Atlanta, are homeless because they lost their guidance to diseases or accidents, while other children may be homeless due to the abuse they are subjected to at home. Thus, the outreach and counseling approach to the homelessness situation in Atlanta is designed to help the homeless in the long and short term.

My teacher had a question about my last posting:
Ieashia, thank you for sharing your proposed program. As I was reading your post, I couldn’t help but to wonder if you are going to specifically focus on children and adolescents who are experiencing homelessness or individuals in general? If it’s the former, then you may have to look at connecting with the schools to get data on the number of children enrolled who fall under the protection of the McKinney Vento Act that allows children to enroll in school who are experiencing homelessness despite where they “live.” Let me know your thoughts.
Dr. X
***** So, Please provide a focus on individuals as a whole/ in general.
