Dysfunctional Software knows that it needs to attract and retain the highest quality employees in the market to develop a sustained competitive advantage. Accordingly, Dysfunctional Software desires to establish an organizational culture and climate that maximizes individual efficiency, productivity, and job satisfaction.

He wants to portray Dysfunctional as a company with a deep commitment to its employees, a positive corporate culture, and employees embracing its core values and enjoying coming to work. As background for the task of developing the video, Mr. Harried provides you with a recruiting video for Spotify, acknowledged as a world-class employer by its 30-country global workforce. Mr. Harried believes that Spotify is an exceptional company in terms of its approach to employees, its hiring practices, its organizational culture, and its organizational structure.
You are requested to view the video on Spotify: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar4lq1l8pAc. (You may need to right-click on the link and open it in a new window.) Mr. Harried also requires you to read the material he has assigned (i.e., your course material for this project).
After viewing the video read the assigned project material, you must write a report to Mr. Harried covering the information requested below. For the report, you are using only the Spotify video and course materials. If additional sources are used, no credit will be awarded for those sources.
Use the following center Bolded and left-justified Bolded headings and instructions to complete the project.
Introduction
Write an Introduction paragraph. The introduction paragraph is the first paragraph of the paper and will describe the paper’s intent to the reader, explaining the main points covered in the paper. The introduction ensures the reader knows exactly what is being covered in the paper. The introduction is often written after the paper is completed. (Use in-text citations as required.)
Organizational Culture

Present examples for each of the seven dimensions of culture using Spotify’s organizational culture. Your description of Spotify’s organizational culture is accomplished by extracting facts from the video and matching those facts with the appropriate dimension descriptor. You must provide support, justification, and, where appropriate, in-text citation for the video facts matched with the dimension descriptors. (Use headings below and in-text citations as required.)
Seven Dimensions of Culture Discussion (Please underline each of the 7 dimensions as you discuss that dimension. Use headings below and in-text citations as required.)

References
Review the Paper
Read the paper to ensure all required elements are present.
The following are specific requirements that you will follow. Use the checklist to mark off that you have followed each specific requirement.
Checklist
Specific Project Requirements
Proofread your paper. Ensure your topic heading matches those above.
Read and use the grading rubric while completing the report to ensure all requirements are met to lead to the highest possible grade.
Third-person writing is required. Third-person means that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first-person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (the second person writing). If uncertain how to write in the third person, view this link: http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/first-second-and-third-person.
Contractions are not used in business writing, so do not use them.
Paraphrase and do not use direct quotations. Paraphrase means you do not use more than four consecutive words from a source document. Removing quotation marks and citing is inappropriate. Instead, put a passage from a source document into your own words and attribute the passage to the source document. There should be no passages with quotation marks. Using more than four consecutive words from a source document would require direct quotation marks. Changing words from a passage does not exclude the passage from having quotation marks.
You are expected to use the provided weekly course materials to develop the analysis and support the reasoning. There should be a robust use of the course material. The material used from a source document must be cited and referenced. A reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa. Changing words from a passage does not exclude the passage from having quotation marks.
Use in-text citations and provide a reference list that contains the reference associated with each in-text citation.
You may not use books in completing this problem set unless they are part of the course material. Also, do not use a dictionary, Wikipedia or Investopedia, or similar sources.
Provide the page or paragraph number in every in-text citation. Since the eBook does not have page numbers, you must include the chapter title, section heading, and paragraph number.
For citations using a video, you must provide the minutes and second of the cited material.

What is the role of the quality assurance department at Shiny Hill Farms?

9.2 Action Required: (Read)

Case – Shiny Hill Farms
Shiny Hill Farms is a major pork processor, specializing in smoked meats, hams, sausages, and luncheon meats. The firm’s largest facility slaughters more than 5,000 hogs each day.
Throughout the food industry, quality is a high priority, and Shiny Hill Farms is no exception.
The quality assurance department (QA) seeks to prevent any defective products from reaching the consumer. QA’s primary concern is for controlling product weight, appearance, and shelf life throughout the manufacturing operations. Production operators are held accountable for their cuts on specific meat products. The cuts must be performed according to quality assurance specifications in order to obtain high yields. (Yield is the percentage of the live weight of the hog that can be sold.)
Quality assurance monitors all operations, from the killing of hogs through packaging. QA
personnel inspect incoming animals, work with USDA inspectors, and monitor cooking
temperatures. They check scales daily to ensure they are providing correct weights. If products fall outside specifications, it is the responsibility of QA personnel to notify operators that changes need to be made to bring quality up to standard. Many QA personnel monitor weights of packaged boxes continuously to ensure that they conform to weight specifications. They open boxes and weigh the packages as well as checking them for defects such as rips, leaks, and pinholes. Weights of packages near the bottom, mid and top of each skid (pallet) are inspected.
If these packages conform to weight specifications, then the entire skid is accepted and sent to the warehouse. If not, the skid is tagged for 100 percent in on, and the process is studied to
determine why the variations occurred. QA personnel analyze graphs of yields and packaging
waste weekly. Other functions throughout the company focus on quality. The sanitation department, for example, sanitizes all manufacturing machines and work surfaces before initial production runs each day. The research and development department plays an important role in improving quality. For example, it is continually seeking out and testing new methods of curing meat and of killing bacteria more effectively and efficiently. R&D also helps to develop new packaging that may improve consumers’ perception of quality In addition, it develops new products, such as “lite” luncheon meats that contain less fat and cholesterol, enlisting the aid of focus groups and taste panels.
A food processing plant is an intense, high-speed manufacturing setting. Shiny Hill
Farms operators may have to make as many as 10 cuts each minute on a conveyor line.
Engineering personnel replaced all old manufacturing fines with ergonomically correct lines. The production line was redesigned to a standard height with adjustable height workstations to better meet operators’ needs. Turnover of meat cutters averages between 30 and 40 percent. New cutters are shown a video on how to use machines and knives correctly in order to make quality cuts. On the line, they are expected to learn from experience-watching others and learning from their mistakes.

9.3 Test your Knowledge (Question):
1. Describe the scope of quality efforts in this organization.?
2. What is the role of the quality assurance department at Shiny Hill Farms? Does it promote the concept of total quality?
3. What suggestions do you have for improving Shiny Hill Farms’ quality effort?

Would your actions reflect “conventional” thinking about business ethics?

What Would You Do?
A popular U.S. TV show is titled “What Would You Do?” Using actors and hidden cameras, the show presents a variety of scenarios of people acting out in situations, usually conflicts or poor treatment of someone, in a public setting. The show focuses on the reactions of the people watching what is being acted out, while not knowing that those engaged in the scenario are just actors. The reactions of those watching the scenarios are recorded and later the show’s anchor, John Quinones, comes out from hiding and confronts those who have reacted and asks them why they did what they did. Some of the show’s episodes have featured situations, such as racial profiling occurring in a restaurant, parents publically disapproving of their child’s interracial dating, a pompous club promoter denying people entry based on how they are dressed, teenagers taunting a homeless man on the street, and a grocery bagger being insulted because of a disability. If you observed the following scenarios, what would you do? Why would you react the way you did?
1. Several young men and women are stealing items from an open house you are attending. You do not know the hosts very well but you know most of those who are stealing.
2. A waitress is being hassled by her supervisor who is using verbal sexual innuendo at the restaurant where you are trying to enjoy your meal. You are a regular customer but you don’t know the waitress because she is new.
3. You observe a man accidentally dropping an expensive bottle of wine in a liquor store when the manager is not looking. The man turns to those around him and denies responsibility; he even tries to blame a Latino maintenance employee who is working cleaning up the store.
4. A transgender woman named Amelia works as a server at a restaurant and proceeds to inform a regular customer that she used to be a man named Bill. The customer begins to harass Amelia.
5. A good friend of yours tells you he is planning to omit certain important facts from his resume before he applies for the same job you are applying for. He says “it’s not important that they know I just lived off my parents for two years after college. Hey, I needed a break.”
6. At your place of employment, a customer paid too much for an order; but, your boss told you not to call it to his attention. What would you do in each of these situations if you observed them occurring? Would your actions reflect “conventional” thinking about business ethics? Would you react differently than most people? Why? What would be the primary source of ethical norms that would be at work in your thinking?
Requirements:
There is no minimum or maximum required number of pages. Your analysis will be considered complete, if it addresses each of the 6 components outlined above.
Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must be properly cited. A minimum of 7 sources (excluding the course textbook) from scholarly articles or business periodicals is required.
Include your best critical thinking and analysis to arrive at your justification.
Approach the assignment from the perspective of the senior executive leadership of the company.
