Write a 2-3 page paper that describes the impact and effects of community service. Include elements from your interview in your paper.
You must use APA format and have at least 3 good sources.
My Interview: My friend Mya volunteers at Mission Marshall regularly and she seems to enjoy her time there. I was able to ask her why did she decide to volunteer for the community and she said that it gave her a chance to help others. The outreach program that she works with gives people free groceries throughout the week. They usually have about 30 volunteers come in and help bag everything up. Mya also stated that she has been able to share the gospel to others and even handed out bibles before.

Critical Thinking
Prompt 1: When are behaviors associated with cognitive dissonance rational? When are they irrational? Describe some examples from your life experience that illustrate the nature of cognitive dissonance.
Critical Thinking Prompt 2: Given our understanding of the power of situations in influencing behavior, can you think of ways to use this knowledge to reduce the likelihood of conformity-based acts of inhumanity?
Application Prompt 1: Suppose you were advising American soldiers on a way to avoid consistency pressures like those used to gain collaboration from the POW’s during the Korean war. What would you tell them? Why?
Application Prompt 2: Imagine that you are having trouble motivating yourself to study for an important exam that is less than a week away. Drawing upon your knowledge of the commitment process, describe what you would do to get yourself to put in the necessary study time. Be sure to explain why your chosen actions ought to work.
Application Prompt 3: Suppose you held a position in an advertising agency in which your job was to create a TV commercial for a product that had several good features and one weak feature. If you wanted the audience to believe in the good features, would you mention the weak one? If you did mention it, would you do so at the beginning, middle, or end of the commercial? What is the reason for your choice?
A note on in-text citing and connecting with the learning materials: As a student, it’s very important that you offer perspectives and arguments that are grounded in the literature – NOT personal opinion or anecdotal evidence. I don’t want a works-cited page, but I do want you to clearly cite your sources in-text for the various connections you’ll be making between the learning materials and your application thereof. For example, one might write, “While I marveled at the uncanny ability of the psychic to tap into my true personality, the Barnum Effect (Aronson, Chapter 2) could have well explained my feelings…” Be sure to use these informal in-text cites to make your arguments and to support your perspectives.

Answer the following college application questions
Why do you want to study your chosen major specifically at Georgia Tech?
You can introduce the characteristics and content of the computer science undergraduate program, introduce outstanding alumni, such as Mike Pinkerton, who is an outstanding alumnus with a lot of open source software, and talk about how you can be associated with him. Note, do not be too general!
My major is computer science, and you can use aspects of computers to complete this essay. You can say, “Use computers to help this world,” or something similar. Please create a persona that I am very motivated and positive, and optimistic. 400 words limit.
Please research Georgia Tech University before writing. No external literature is allowed.
You can check the school’s official website & social media such as Facebook/YouTube to find out what the school can offer in terms of computer courses, extracurricular activities, internships, and other resources (preferably related to your major), and write briefly about them and what you can learn.
Note: When writing, don’t just list what attracts you to the school. You need to combine it with your (my) interest in computers to explain why these programs/resources attract you and show the match. You can make up stories about my past and interest in computers.

Essay Assignment #1: Rhetorical Analysis
Because we have learned that everything presents an argument, for this assignment you will
choose either a visual text, such as an advertisement, or a written text, such as an editorial or an
essay.
We will be examining texts in class, and any corporate analysis is off limits. However, you are
encouraged to use one of the texts you personally have analyzed in our practice sessions.
You will analyze, using examples from your chosen text, how the author uses devices such as
language, appeal, content, structure, tone, style, and diction to communicate his or her argument
effectively (or ineffectively, as the case may be). Note that only argument you are making is
one based on the effectiveness of the chosen argument. That is, you do not have to agree or
disagree with the text you choose, though it can affect you in some way.
You will need to identify the exigency (reason) of the rhetorical situation and analyze the
constraints as well. In short, you are analyzing the effectiveness of the argument in all its
aspects.
Here are the specifics:
•Identify the argument.
•Use specific evidence from the text to create a thesis about the argument’s effectiveness.
•Analyze the aspects argumentation that the author uses to construct the device.
•Use specific evidence (even from visual arguments) from the text to support your claims.
•The essay should have well-defined points, developed paragraphs, and introduction, and a
conclusion.
•The essay itself should be about 3-5 pages in length (aim for 4).
•The essay should carry a running header for each page in the right-hand corner.
•The essay should be double-spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font.
•The essay should have a header in the upper left-hand corner
